Salkantay Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrive in Cusco (please let me know if you need help booking your flight from Lima or hotels). This day is for relaxing and beginning your acclimation to the altitude of Cusco. Day 2 - Acclimate to the altitude... we can add a Cusco City Tour if you would like. Day 3 - Acclimate to the altitude... we can add a Sacred Valley Tour if you would like. Day 4 - We leave the city of Cusco at 5 a.m. for the village of Mollepata, a trip of approximately 3 hours by bus, where we begin our hike to the first camp called Soraypampa. While we will have no morning meditation this day, you can, of course, meditate on the bus (or sleep!). Halfway thru this hike, we will stop for lunch. The camp is at approximately 3850 meters in altitude. Later, when we arrive at base camp, we will have a snack and then dinner. This camp is the highest in elevation that we have on this trail and, therefore, quite cold at night. Some of you will receive energy work before the dinner, others after so that all can receive a treatment. Day 5 We wake up early so we can do 15 minutes of group meditation and 30 minutes of Tai Chi before breakfast. After we eat, we begin to walk towards our second camp, called Qolpayoq, which we find at 3200 meters. Before we reach camp, we will arrive at the highest point on this trail at the side of the Salkantay mountain. Salkantay is one of the tallest mountains in Peru and South America (6271 m.). This high point of the trail is about 4400 meters. On this day we will hike for 8 to 9 hours. Again, treatments will be divided before and after dinner. Day 6 Another early rise so we can do 15 minutes of group meditation and 30 minutes of Tai Chi before we eat. After breakfast, we start our trek again to make the third camp called La Playa, which we find situated at an altitude of 2200 meters. This section is the most beautiful of all the trail because we begin to get into the outskirts of the jungle. We walk approximately 8-9 hours and we will see some native communities of the area as well as small coffee plantations and all the different plants and animals of the area. Treatments will be before and after dinner. Day 7 Early morning meditation and Tai Chi, followed by breakfast. This day is the easiest for the morning since we will ride together, on trucks and local buses, to the place called Hidroelectrica. Later, we will take a hike of 3 hours to the town of Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night and we can visit the hot springs for which the town is named. Day 8 - This morning, I invite you to do your morning meditations independently… fixing in your mind your personal intention for your visit to Machu Picchu. After breakfast, very early, we board the first bus to Machu Picchu. We carry out our guided tour and after that we climb the mountain of Huaynu Picchu, a place where there are panoramic views of the entire citadel, as well as some additional Inca sites that make perfect places for meditation. Later, you have free time to explore places in the citadel of Machu Picchu that you desire since there are optional routes in this complex. In the afternoon, we will board the train to return to Cusco, and to our respective lodgings. Or, if desired, your trip can be planned to stay an additional night in Aguas Calientes and return the following day to hike Huaynu Picchu and explore the citadel more on your own. There are various alternatives and/or expansions to this itinerary. We can add more cultural trips to the Sacred Valley or various other Spiritual Excursions. Or, you may want to take advantage of being in the country and visit Lake Titicaca with the famous floating islands where the people live on woven reeds. And there are also the mysterious Nazca Lines... giant drawings in the desert which can only be seen from the air. With the help of expert Peruvian Tour Agency, Pachamama Explorers, we can tailor an itinerary to suit your time and interests. For those of you whose hearts are set on the classic Inca Trail, this can be combined with the energy work portion of the previous itinerary. Unfortunately, the hiking on that trek does not allow time for group meditation or Tai Chi. Additions to services and changes to suggested itinerary are easy enough to make... just let me know, and I can give make suggestions and price accordingly. |
