Maureen has been doing energy work for several years, starting with Tai Chi and Qi Gong in 1992. Since then, she has studied several different types of meditation and Qi Gong techniques, as well as various types of Energy Work such as Reiki, Shiatsu, and Cranial Sacral therapy. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine and is a Licensed Acupuncturist in California where she had a private practice before moving to Cusco. In addition, she is a Diplomate in Oriental Medicine, with a specialty in Acupuncture Orthopedics and Energetics of the Secondary Vessels.
In January of 2008, I (Maureen) travelled to Peru for the first time and fell in love with the land and its people. In May 2008, I returned by myself… and felt like I was coming home. In October 2008, I returned with 3 others to hike the Salkantay trail… setting our entire itinerary… and this concept was born. In November 2008, I returned for the fourth time…this time to make my life here in Cusco. At that time, I also began working with PachaMama Explorers… a highly experienced trekking and tour company based in Cusco. Between myself, PachaMama, and their exceptional tour guides, we will make your trip to Peru as easy and as magical as possible.
One of these guides, Ruben Apaza Holguin, has been a licensed guide in Peru for over 7 years and has led hundreds of tours in Machu Picchu, as well as guided countless treks including the classic Inca Trail, Salkantay, Lares, Huchuy Qosqo, and Choquequirao. Son of an Andean priest, Ruben is infused with a genuine love for his land and his people and brings his knowledge and innate passion to every trek.
Ruben has a degree in tourism and he continues to expand his education on his own, keeping up with latest theories and reading as much as possible about the history of his land. But rest assured, he is not the most serious person in the world either… you will truly feel like part of a family when you travel with us. Ruben is the most light hearted person ever… always laughing, always joking.
